• 1/30 This Time, I Notice Everything

      Rewriting Memories

I’ve been going through my old poetry

Remembering the things I left behind

And for some faults I rewrite a memory

As if atoning for my sins and crimes

I’ve been thinking about my penance

The anger that used to flow through my veins

The words we spat were poisonous venom –

Furious – while I wrapped myself in chains

But now, this time, I notice everything

      Understanding ourselves a little more

I was dying from all the coloring

Trying to cover the holes in my core

I should have been more sincere with myself

But what’s the use other than retrospect

It’s just a memory left on the shelf

For an old man who likes to recollect

      • Profound on many levels Wally…

(I haven’t been able to read old poetry…

I think it may be connected to depression…

But I think the introspection, available to
        writers, poets and artists…

        Is…

        Of a unique type…

        (On a side note…

I think it may be possible to reconfigure the past…

        In different ways…

        One being our writing…

        Tis strange…)

I like where this took me…

The scaled repetition really creates a shift of movement…

        Very nice…

Thank you so much for being here…

        • @Cipher_O Thanks bro. I cringe sometimes, not at the poetry itself but at what I said and did. but this time I’ve become more aware of who I am. It’s the theme I’m going with this year’s NaPoWriMo.

        • This poem is multi layered in its tone and text, the repetitive lines make it as an anchoring point. Resurfacing the tidal waters, exploring older layers of the soul and the self, ty for sharing, blessings, M

          • @Morganna Thank you so much for reading and commenting. I was having a hard time what to pick as far as a theme for this year’s writing challenge, so it’ll be a reflective 30 pieces. Look forward to reading yours as well.
