We Are Not Born with Entitlement

We have to earn it as we age.

The problem with America today is—

      everyone literally feels entitled.

When the world in America was still steady, dependable, and wonderful,

there was a reason for that…

      There were stages to maturity

and entitlements that came with it.

And because of that, there was an understanding—

      and it worked just fine.

The simple flow of things was possible

because everyone understood that privileges were earned,

      and when respect was paramount.

Kids were the lowest on the totem pole of growing up.

      They—we—were tadpoles by age five,

and we had to figure out the scheme of life

      step by step.

      And we did,

because the people before us laid out the path,

and we had to pay attention.

      And we did,

because we didn’t have a choice.

      We were children.

      And the adults knew better.

And you bet your ass they did.

      Our elders were the law—

      and things were better then…

The fact that we allow children to influence us as adults,

and that everybody gets a fair say,

and everyone gets the same treatment

      starting from birth—

      is so ridiculous.

I can’t even fucking take it.

Gag me with a fucking spoon, man.

Today’s America is polluted with serial killers,

      child killers,

and kids that are so fucking confused

they don’t know if they’re coming or going.

      Kids are killing themselves

because the bully epidemic is out of control,

and no one does anything but sit by and judge.

So when you ask an older citizen

      what’s wrong with America today—

and they give you the middle finger—

it’s because they are in shock…

We were allowed to be a children.

We wasn’t burdened with adult decisions, identity crises, or the weight of the world.

      We was guided— not enabled.

      Protected— not pandered to.

We had the space to grow into adulthood—

not be shoved into it. And that’s the difference.

      Which is my point exactly.

      We’re not in America anymore.

      We’re in survival.

Everybody’s doing their own fucking thing,

      and nobody’s accountable for anything.

      There are no morals.

      There are no values.

      Just greed—

      loud and shameless.

      America is long gone.

      So when people ask me—

      the writer of this piece—

      “Where are you from?”

      I simply say:

      Earth.

      )))O(((
